For five years the author has observed the behaviour of the wild buffaloes living in North Dahomey. After describing local conditions (climate, vegetation, human factors) he lists the breeds of buffaloes met with in that area and gives detailed information on habits and behaviour of those animals. In particular he protests against the undue repute of ferocity attached to this animal, that charges man but rarely and only when attacked.
